Center for the Arts in Crested Butte
The 2023 Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational, having taken place August 12-13, achieved unprecedented success, affirming its status as a premier gathering for art enthusiasts, collectors, and artists from across the country.
The CBPAI brought together some of the country’s most accomplished landscape painters, including Bill Anton, Josh Elliott, Jay Moore, Ray Roberts, Dave Santillanes, Carolyn Lord, Stephen Quiller, Heather Burton, Bruce A. Gomez, Gay Faulkenberry, J. Chris Morel, Don Sahli, Kathie Odom, Brad Teare, Philip Alexander Carlton, John Lintott, and Benjamin Knox along with their hosts, Shaun Horne and Dawn Cohen.
A staggering collection of over 400 original pieces of artwork from 100 exceptionally talented artists were displayed at the event. The Invitational’s resounding success was fueled by the hard work put in by participating artists. Artists were given three years to visit Crested Butte to paint and find inspiration in the mountain landscape, allowing them to work at their own pace. This extended time frame enabled artists to create work from all seasons, an unusual opportunity in the plein air festival calendar.
This immense painting effort led to the culmination and success of the 2023 CBPAI which achieved an astonishing $325,000 in artwork sales. Collectors and art enthusiasts were drawn to the event from around the state of Colorado and the country.
Shaun and Dawn extend their gratitude to the artists and collectors for supporting this event. The next Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational will take place in 2026. We hope that everyone will join us once again in three years!
